Sonny began shooting rifles and handguns at a young age. He joined USPSA in August of 2004 and now holds B classifications in both Limited and Production divisions and regularly places highly in local matches. He became a Range Officer in April of 2007 at age 13 under Troy McManus.

Sonny shot his first IDPA classifier in April of 2004. He could not legally participate in matches until his twelfth birthday but was allowed to do so by all of the local match directors. Many thanks to the MD's of Blackcreek, Rivanna, and Cavalier for their support. Sonny won numerous trophies on the way up and now holds Master classifications in ESP and SSP divisions.

Sonny really came around when he was awarded the Area 8 scholarship to attend Camp Shootout at the Miculek compound in Louisiana. He not only thoroughly enjoyed himself but progressed rapidly under Kay and Jerry's expert tutilage. Read about his experience at Camp Shootout. Not only is Sonny an excellent shooter but excels in his academic studies as well. He attended Hanover Academy in Ashland from Kindergarten through seventh grade and has never earned less then an A in any subject. He is presently being home schooled by his proud parents Nevitt and Robin Morton. When not practicing and honing his shooting skills on Nevco Targets, his family's own company, he enjoys hunting, fishing, four wheeling and basketball.

Sonny continues to excel in his shooting and earned the Top Junior and Second overall Junior awards at the 2008 U.S. Steel National Championship in South Carolina and was featured on Shooting USA in September. He earned Top Junior and ESP Division Winner trophies at the 2008 Maryland State IDPA Championship. Many thanks to James Jackson and crew for putting on yet another great match. He again attended Camp Shootout at the Miculek compound in June by receiving the Brian Haas Memorial Scholarship. Many thanks to the Haas family for choosing Sonny and to the Miculeks for all they do to help train our Juniors.

Sonny also earned Top Junior Limited honors at the 2008 South Carolina USPSA Championship in Columbia. Thanks to Jack Suber and crew for a fun and exciting match. Only gun malfunctions kept Sonny from placing at the 2008 Summer Blast charity match in York, PA. It was hard to feel bad looking around at all the delightful cartoon props and paintings that made this a match not to miss for us in the future. Thanks to Larry Houck and crew for a great match and for using some of our Nevco Targets. Sonny also received High Junior, 2nd ESP Master and most accurate at the 2008 Commonwealth Cup IDPA Championship At Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club in Charlottesville, VA. Thanks to Jim Wilson and Dave White for running another great match. It is amazing how they get it all done in one day.

Sonny also received the ESP Division Winner plaque at the 2008 Weaponsmaster match in Charlottesville. Thanks again to Jim and Dave at Rivanna for a great three gun match. As you can see he has had a busy year and is looking forward to 2009. He continues to excel in his studies as a straight A student and is presently helping Dad with his business, Nevco Targets.

Sonny has already started 2009 with a bang at the Steel Nationals in Titusville, Florida by walking away with Top Junior Rimfire, Top Junior Centerfire and Junior Steelmaster. He was featured again on Shooting USA on June 24 and was the topic of an article in the Florida Today newspaper.
